Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)

HOME > PROGRAM

About the ELDT Regulations: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 7, 2022

FMCSA’s Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations set the baseline for training requirements for entry-level drivers.

This includes those applying to:

  • Obtain a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time
  • Upgrade an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL
  • Obtain a School bus (S), Passenger (P), or Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement for the first time.
  • The ELDT regulations are not retroactive; individuals who were issued a CDL or an S, P, or H endorsement prior to February 7, 2022, are not required to complete training for the respective CDL or endorsement.
  • If an applicant who obtains a CLP prior to February 7, 2022, obtains a CDL before the CLP or renewed CLP expires, the applicant is not subject to the ELDT requirements.
  • Any individual who meets one of the exceptions for taking a skills test in 49 CFR Part 383 is also exempt from the ELDT requirements.

OUR PROGRAM

With Key Administrative Instructors, and the Head of School being a former student, together they are able to view teaching and learning objectively. As a result, our CDL driving school offers a unique program, taught in a consistent, systematic, and quantifiable way. This is why PTI graduates students better prepared than at any other truck driver institute.

Professional Trucking Institute

Our online program is designed for flexibility and student interaction. Participation in all online instruction can be done with a cell phone, tablet, or home computer. Students also have access to stay in touch with their instructors to ask any questions they may have.

Behind-the-wheel instruction will consist of driver road training and backing maneuvers. Each student will receive 1-on-1 driver training and observation. In addition, students will learn how to perform a vehicle pre-trip inspection for testing.

Your CDL exam will consist of three components:

  • Pre-Trip inspection
  • Backing maneuvers
  • Road test 30-40 minutes long

With us, students will test in the vehicle they train in.  Though our first-time pass rate is 97%, an additional retest is done if needed.
